They pressed on to the deep recesses of the mine and discovered the gallium deposit that Maerwynn had described. Nearby was a broken mine cart. Dynamo attempted to use Balthier's [[Tinker's Tools]] to repair it, but did not succeed; Uhtred then tried and instead broke the cart axle beyond repair. However, it was determined that Fran would be able to push the cart still, so they loaded it up with gallium and slowly dragged it back out of the mine. The commotion stirred more carrion crawlers, who attacked them near the mine entrance. The party slew them without issue and loaded the material onto the _Skyborn_, sailing back to [[Vinsklar]]. They took a Long Rest on the flight back. When they awoke, Dr Bungus had yet another strange elixir by his side, this one orange and red. Back in the city, they unloaded the gallium for [[Maerwynn]], who was quite appreciative. While she examined it, Uhtred went to return the _Gallowhawk_ to their black market buyer, and Dynamo went to [[The Pauper's Crown]] with Anonis and Dr Bungus. Dynamo sought out the man who was blackmailing her, but upon arriving at the tavern, did not find him. The bartender identified him as "Alric" and said that, while he was a frequent guest, he had not been seen since his meeting with Dynamo. Stymied, Dynamo went to [[The Hand]] to talk with [[Ealdraed]]. Ealdraed told her that he had never heard of a man named Alric, which made Dynamo suspicious. Anonis then asked where he could find people from Skogdal, as he was trying to find out who the "newcomers" to the city had been. Ealdraed told him about the [[Foresthome Boardinghouse]], a boardinghouse in the Market Quarter established by refugees from Skogdal and that catered to former residents of the sylvan city. Anonis also asked about First Citizen [[Grimulf]] and [[The Cathedral]], but Ealdraed told him nothing he hadn't heard before from the priests. The old man charged 2 gp for the information, and they left. Back at the docks, Uhtred had received a brief rundown of next steps from Maerwynn and decided to prowl the docks, treading his familiar haunts. He saw additional messages from his old associate Morcaer, asking to meet at The Hand, so he headed that direction. He arrived at the tavern as the rest of the party was leaving, and told them to wait outside as he had a quick conversation. Inside, the bartender directed Uhtred to a booth. Inside was waiting not Morcaer, but one of his employees: a woman named [[Ava]], who managed his main warehouse. She tells him: > Morcaer's trying to get you arrested. He found someone, one of Edward's old crew. She's living in Vinsklar these days, working honest now down by the docks. He had one of the guys chat her up over a pint, and found out she's got details. She was with the _Bluefish_ during that job you did in '31, and she knows about that business down in Storgard, too. Maybe more. Morcaer is gonna force her to testify to the bailiffs about your connections to Edward so you get tossed in the gaol. > > He's waiting for more, though. He doesn't want you to have any wiggle room on this. He's sent a crew out east, looking for something to shore up the case against you. I don't know what. He's not going to make a move before he gets it, unless you make him. Edward Turoldsson, captain of the _Bluefish_, is a sky pirate with whom Uhtred has worked in the past. Any smuggler who's been in the game long enough needs to turn to the experts every now and then. Morcaer is no exception. But any kind of association with sky pirates puts one in jeopardy of Vinsklar's laws. Morcaer is trying to exploit this to remove Uhtred from the picture and clear the competition. Ava told him the witness' name – Juthwara – and that she works by the docks, but had nothing else to share. She promised to inform Uhtred of anything else she found out. Uhtred deduced that Ava is likely angling to topple Morcaer and seize the smuggling operation for herself, but that only meant their interests are currently aligned. She departed The Hand and so did he. The party regrouped and headed back to the hangar. Maerwynn reiterated that she needs a lab and described her proposal: the construction site of Vinsklar, across the chasm. The site is abandoned but vast, filled with detritus, debris, and underground chambers. The canyon provides distance for the sounds and smells likely to be produced, yet the site remains accessible via the windbreak the spans the gorge. She asked the party to clear the location of any animals or vagrants who may have taken up residence. The issue is that the windbreak, the main approach, is guarded by Haakon's mercenaries. Taking them out will only raise questions. The group gathered near the windbreak and began to formulate a plan.
