The group rested overnight in the airship hangar, waking the next day to handle some more errands in [[Vinsklar]] before departing. Dr Bungus found a mysterious potion by his bed. Balthier went to meet one of his old gearsmith friends, while Uhtred went to pause the sale of the _Gallowhawk_ so she could be used in the evacuation of Cytaburh. Dynamo stayed behind at the hangar, while Anonis and Bungus went to [[The Cathedral]] so Anonis could make some inquiries into the archives. Anonis encountered some difficulty reaching the cathedral, as city construction made the way confusing and strewn with obstacles. After finally arriving, he discussed this with [[Godfred]], the almskeeper, who informed him that the First Citizen (mayor), [[Grimulf]], has been trying to marginalise the priests and the cathedral by instituting a bogus public works initiative (the Civic Quarter Improvement Plan). Unfortunately, Grimulf's plan is working: donations and recruitment have both plummeted at the cathedral. Tensions between the priests and the city Raed, Grimulf in particular, are high. Anonis loves expositionary yapping as much as the next guy, but he came here for a reason. He asked to see archives of the exodus, in an attempt to track down his parents. Godfred led him to the archives, where the cathedral maintains copies of the records from [[the monastery|Gudesberg]]. Anonis was able to locate the exodus records from his birthday and found the ship his mother arrived on, and the account of her giving birth on the monastery steps before dying (which line up with what he was told). In the records, the priests questioned the other refugees as to the identity of the woman, but all they said was that she was one of the "newcomers" to Skogdal. The ledger had distinctive typographical notation in the margins; when asked, the archivist said that this was a notification from the archivist at Gudesberg, indicating that this page was to be censored. It's not clear why this instruction wasn't followed at the time, but he intends to do it now. Before he could, Anonis asked to copy down some of the names of the other passengers, with the hopes of tracking them down for further information. That being done, he headed back to the airship hangar. In the evening, [[Maerwynn]] returned with some more information. She had discovered a promising candidate for her secret laboratory: the abandoned construction site of Prosperity, across the chasm. She also pointed out which gallium deposit was easiest to extract: a site near Cytaburh, coincidentally. The group decided to try to gather the needed gallium from there after helping with the village. Later in the evening, Dynamo's mysterious shipment arrived, along with a destination: a seemingly isolated spot of no significance, far to the north. Dynamo broke open one of the crates and found complex mechanical equipment. Balthier said it reminded him of machinery in [[Lord Haakon]]'s automated manufactoria. They sealed the crate up and loaded the cargo onto the _Skyborn_, though the delivery would have to wait. Not having any further need to wait, the party pushed off despite the late hour. Both the _Skyborn_ and the _Gallowhawk_ sailed for Cytaburh, with Dynamo and Balthier on the former and the rest of the party, with Stanfleda, on the latter. I think they forgot about those two mercenaries still tied up in the _Gallowhawk_'s brig. When they arrived at the village, Stanfleda immediately took off to her parents' house, which had partially collapsed with her parents inside. Most of the party went with her, while Balthier and Fran stayed behind to coordinate villagers boarding the two ships. Stanfleda's house had sunk far enough that the chthona were able to attack it, albeit in a weakened state. The party fought off a handful of chthona while Uhtred helped Stanfleda free her parents. Once Uhtred forced open the door, the parents ran away to safety with Stanfleda, leaving the party to cover their retreat as the ground sank further and the chthona grew emboldened. The party got their shit _rocked_. Dynamo and Anonis went down a couple times, I think. With the situation dire, Dr Bungus pulled out the mysterious potion he had found this morning… and drank it for some reason. It instantly put him into a dazed state, staring off into the distance. Only when a chthon attacked him was he able to shake out of it. The party barely managed to kill the chthona in the vicinity, but others were on their way. Dr Bungus and Uhtred stabilised the others and dragged them to safety, and they limped back to the town square.
