Dr Bungus attempted to harvest some slime from the ooze – which had triggered the entire combat previously – and fumbled, taking a hit of Acid damage instead. With some party members wounded and Bungus near death, you decided to take a Short Rest in a nearby storeroom **\[2]**. Having recuperated somewhat, you pressed on and arrived at an abyss, over which the priests had built a series of wooden walkways **\[3]**. On the far side of the abyss there was a priest. He said: > "She's awake. We woke her." Then he left, receding into the darkness. The party raced across the pit to pursue him, but he seemed to have vanished. However, cursory inspection showed that a section of the cave wall was illusory. The illusion fooled only Dynamo; the other party members saw the wall shimmer and distort, as the phantasm had not yet taken root in their minds. You traversed the illusion, dragging a confused Dynamo, to find a passageway to another side cavern **\[4]**. The priest was there, hunched over a basin of swirling liquid that constantly changed in colour. He seemed to be communicating with it. Up close, you could see that the priest's skin was pale, and glistened as though coated with a thin layer of mucus. His eyes were sunken and his voice was toneless. He gestured towards the basin and invited you to speak with "her". Balthier accepted, plunging his hand into the bowl. A presence spoke to him within his mind, though Balthier has not shared what it said to him. Uhtred responded by tipping over the basin and spilling the liquid. The priest simply turned to leave, but the party impeded him, and Dynamo ultimately had to knock him prone to stop him. At that, the spilled liquid from the basin congealed into an ooze which attacked the party. During this combat, the party swiftly dispatched the priest and battled with the ooze. As they did so, strange creatures dropped from the ceiling above, projecting an unnatural aura of darkness. The party struggled greatly with this sensory handicap, but was eventually able to slay all their assailants. The ooze, as it died, reached out to Balthier, seeming to speak with him again briefly before melting into nothingness. The priest's body also leaked clear fluid when he died. Wounded once more and perturbed by these events, you attempted to take a Long Rest in the now-vacant chamber. ![[session05_map.webp|Session Map]]
