# Description
A matchlock pistol is a personal firearm, most often carried by [[Haakon's Mercenaries]] as a badge of office or uniform of sorts. It is a martial ranged weapon which requires proficiency in firearms (proficiency in martial weapons or airship weapons is not sufficient). Matchlock pistols have a range of **20/80 feet**. They suffer from persistent accuracy problems; any attack roll made with a pistol has a **-2 penalty on the d20**. However, they deal a deadly **1d12 + 6 Piercing damage** if they hit.
_Slow Match._ A matchlock pistol carries a slow-burning length of match cord above the flash pan, which is used to fire the gun. This match cord must be lit using a Bonus Action if the wielder begins combat unawares.
_Reload._ A matchlock pistol can only fire one shot before needing to be reloaded, which takes an action.
_Ammunition._ A matchlock pistol requires both bullets (fairly cheap) and gunpowder (very expensive). Bullets are destroyed when they hit or miss a target, and cannot be recovered from the battlefield.
_Loud._ The shot from a pistol is quite loud, and can be heard up to 300 feet away. At the DM's discretion, gunshots within a 20-foot radius may trigger a CON saving throw (DC 11) to avoid being [[Conditions#Deafened|Deafened]], especially in confined quarters or with characters not used to gunfire.
Mastery property: Slow (if you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to it, you can reduce its Speed by 10 feet until the start of your next turn. Does not stack.)
