Priestly tradition holds that it is nearly as old as the founding of Soranger, the temple, and the [[The Order of Priests|The Order]] itself. While not widely known outside of the priesthood, within the Order it has always been revered as the focus of many of their meditation rituals. It is a **statue of a sword**, carved out of dark stone, slightly larger in size than a typical sword. It is **covered in extensive engravings**, both lines of script in the **Old Tongue** and the complex, interlocking **Empyrean runes of the gods**. It was found in the Soranger temple, embedded in an altar of stone (blade in, hilt sticking out). Why it was not evacuated during the Exodus with the rest of the priests' most holy and powerful relics is unclear. The engravings represent the longest runic inscription known to thaumatology, and many of the runes are entirely unfamiliar to [[Maerwynn]], a noted expert on Empyrean runes. However, what has been interpreted so far refers to fearsome monsters with black fur, claws, fangs, and the insatiable desire to destroy – a description that seems to fit the chthona that have destroyed human civilisation in Skadyrik. It also may mention a weakness or way to defeat them.
