**Kronaborg** was the capital city of [[Skadyrik]]. Like all Surface cities, it now lies abandoned and in ruins since [[The Riving]]. > [!infobox| right wikipedia] > # Kronaborg > ![[frozen hometown - flaviobolla.webp|cover hsmall]] > ##### Geographical > | | | > | ---- | ---- | > | **Planet** | [[Jord]] | > | **Continent** | [[Adenland]] | > | **Region** | [[Skadyrik]] | > | **Districts** | unknown | > ##### Government > | | | > | ---- | ---- | > | **Government** | Feudal Lordship | > | **Noble House** | [[Kronaborgur Clan]] | > ##### Miscellaneous > | | | > | ---- | ---- | > | **Size** | Ruin | # General Kronaborg is located near the geographical centre of Skadyrik, east of [[Rejken]] and adjacent to the royal forest of King's Hunt. It was one of Skadyrik's northernmost cities, and is only a few hours south of [[Prosperity]] by airship. The city began as a small outpost – the _crown's fortress_, the name it retains to this day – for the king to use as a hunting camp. Over time, kings spent more and more time there until King Eirik moved his capital there permanently in 1292 VL. When Harthrefr Gormsson and his five sons unexpectedly came to the king's defence in the War of the Shattered Spear, Harthrefr's house was elevated to nobility and given the name [[Kronaborgur Clan|Kronaborgur]]. Although the Kronaborgur family enjoyed great renown and were nominally rulers of Kronaborg, in many ways they had less power than other noble houses, as the king was always able to countermand them. Among many of the kingdom's organisations and institutions housed in Kronaborg was the Cathedral of [[The Order of Priests|the priests]]. Because the crown's soldiers protected the capital, the Kronaborgur were able to invest in defence rather than offence. Over the centuries, Kronaborg's walls, bastions, and turrets grew elaborate and ever more imposing. In the decades before The Riving, it became a centre for technological advancement, especially firearms and steam-driven machines. The nearby Icteric Mine provided a steady source of sulphur for gunpowder, and the geothermal activity of the region had long provoked discussion and study of gases under pressure. These technologies, sponsored by both crown and the noble house, were developed into defensive weaponry for the city. During [[The Riving]], the capital's walls faced their ultimate test. Steam-powered repeating ballistae, auto-tracking cannons, and bladed proto-automata fought alongside the kingdom's finest, cutting down wave after wave of [[chthona]] as the civilian populace scrambled for the exodus ships. King Hromund, with his typical bravery, fought on the battlements himself alongside his custodial guard. So formidable were the defences and defenders of Kronaborg that the walls were never breached. Once the remaining citizens had been evacuated, the soldiers were drawn off gradually onto the exodus ships until there were not enough to hold back the tide of bestial savagery – those remaining died at their posts, and the city was left empty of life, largely intact. # Places %% DATAVIEW_PUBLISHER: start ```dataview TABLE WITHOUT ID file.link AS "Places", placeCategory AS "Category", faction AS "Faction" from "3-Places/Places" where settlement = this.file.link where publish = true sort placeCategory ASC, file.link ASC ``` %% | Places | Category | Faction | | ------ | -------- | ------- | %% DATAVIEW_PUBLISHER: end %% # NPCs %% DATAVIEW_PUBLISHER: start ```dataview TABLE WITHOUT ID file.link AS "NPCs", gender AS "Gender", faction AS "Faction", district AS "District" from "4-People/People" where settlement = this.file.link where publish = true sort file.link ASC ``` %% | NPCs | Gender | Faction | District | | ---- | ------ | ------- | -------- | %% DATAVIEW_PUBLISHER: end %% # Gallery > [!example]- Image > ![[frozen hometown - flaviobolla.webp|center|800]] > Frozen Hometown – flaviobolla \[[DeviantArt link](https://www.deviantart.com/flaviobolla/art/Frozen-Hometown-425982577)]
